Global Collaboration Gives Access To Sunshine Coast

Rider Levett Bucknall has recently been appointed as the Quantity Surveyor for the upcoming AUD$940m (GBP£400m) Sunshine Coast Hospital in Queensland.

A business case analysis is currently being undertaken to determine whether the project will proceed as a Public Private Partnership (PPP). If the project does proceed as a PPP it will be the largest building PPP project undertaken in Queensland. A critical factor behind this successful appointment was Rider Levett Bucknall's vast experience of Healthcare PPP projects in the UK.

The hospital is to be constructed on a 20 hectare Greenfield site at Kawana Waters and when completed in 2014 will contain 450 beds (increasing to 650 beds by 2021).

RLB Queensland Director Paul Megram said, "Our UK colleagues" wealth of experience gained over the past 10 years of successfully delivering PPP projects for Government Departments and the Private sector including Ministry of Defence HM Prison Service, British Nuclear Fuels, Education and the Court Service, will be invaluable during the business case phase of this project”.

Mr Megram commented on the amount of PPP experience and knowledge that Rider Levett Bucknall will be able to leverage and share amongst their 2,000 strong workforce,

"An example of the PPP experience that we now have access to is Rider Levett Bucknall's involvement with the UK's Ministry of Defence Training Review of the three Armed Forces for the next 25 to 30 years. This is one of the largest PPP commissions ever, involving 40 sites throughout the UK and a massive £1billion development of an old air base in South Wales."

Brian Grew, Partner at RLB UK added: "This is a great example of how our collaborative approach can benefit our clients across the globe. The transfer of UK best practice to our other offices will help the successful delivery of International PFI/PPP projects as this funding/procurement route continues to develop."
